Art House

I don’t recall how I first came across Art House. It was about two years ago, and they were hosting their first collaborative art exhibit called The Sketchbook Project. The first 100 or so participants to sign up and pay a $13 submission fee received a sketchbook to doodle in or whatever they wished. After a few months, sketchbooks were mailed in to be displayed in an exhibit hosted by Art House, with artists having the option to sell their work or not. I thought the idea was intriguing, and so did Adam, who signed up to participate. He really enjoyed the creative experience.

The Sketchbook Project was a huge success, and Art House has grown by leaps and bounds ever since. They’ve even started using submission fees to fund grants to help artists complete bodies of work. And The Sketchbook Project has since become a recurring event. Now in it’s fourth iteration, it is amassing a collection of sketchbooks that will tour galleries across the country. Art House has  also launched several other initiatives. Here are a few of the latest:

Artists create a work in their style with only one color as a theme. Submissions will be exhibited and included in a 4-part book. For more details, click here.

The Self Portrait Project is Art House's effort to create the largest portrait exhibition ever. Simply create an 8x10 drawing, photo, collage, etc., that represents you. For more details, click here.

This international scavenger hunt/social experiment will explore how artists around the globe visually interpret the same items. For details, click here.

And for us writer types, there's the first ever Fiction Project, a companion to The Sketchbook Project. The ultimate goal: Create a narrative book that fuses the visual and written arts. For stuff, click here.

Sign up for Art House's Weekly Projects e-mail for a little creative boost. Just e-mail your response or visual, and they'll post the results to their blog. This week's creative exercise: What would you do with 5,000 ping pong balls. Hmm... For ya know, click here.
