i heart converse

August 13, 2011

If I could pick any brand to work on it would be Converse. I love the shoes, I think the brand transcends generations and multiple genres of music (which I also love) and

I love the most recent Converse “motto”.

“The brand enters its second century by honoring its heritage of seeing things a little differently, loving people who want to change the world for the better, and basically celebrating the spirit of rebellion and originality in basketball, Rock & Roll and anywhere else you find it.

And there you have it — for now… The best stories are the ones that don’t end — the ones you just keep adding to and adding to — all the while marveling at the creative, disruptive, optimistic, courageous ways things evolve from being what they were, to what they are, to what they will become.”

Fun Project

August 13, 2011

Actually, I think this one is a challenge. I challenge you to take pictures of, or take note of the first 30 logos you see in 30 minutes. Then post the photos or list here. I think it’ll be neat to see if any logos are repeated and if they are which ones!

Weekly Fun Project

June 29, 2010

This week’s project is word illustration.

Choose a word to illustrate. Do not use pictures or distort your letterforms into pictures to tell your story. Let the letters tell their message visually through size, color, shape, structure, texture and placement. Tell visually what the word says intellectually.

Ready, set, GO!

Weekly Fun Project

June 22, 2010

The word of the week is contour, or really, blind contour.

Contour drawing is essentially outline drawing, and blind contour drawing means drawing the outline of the subject without looking at the paper. The end result doesn’t matter – what is important is carefully observing the subject. Make the line continuous, avoid lifting the pencil from the paper, and most importantly, DON’T PEEK!

Now, just pick an object and draw! On Friday, post it here if you’d like to.

Meet Greg

June 19, 2010

He’s a gregarious flamingo monster that enjoys sneaking up on sleeping flamingos and day dreaming about one day catching one of his own.

Weekly Project Fun

June 14, 2010

Finally, here it is! The first weekly project. I’ll post these every Monday and you guys can work on them whenever you have a free second during the week and post them on here, Friday.

I got this first idea from hashbrowncasserole, in her free time she’s bouncing around the blogoshpere and finding all kinds of cool things. This project comes to us from Monsters in Real Places.

Use a photograph of some setting. Create and add a monster into the photo. Don’t spend too much time on it, these are supposed to be quick, fun-little projects. Then post it here and if you want to you can post it on the monster blog too.

Deep-Fried Question

March 18, 2010

Hello fellow Deep-Fryers!

I have an idea that I’m really excited about and would love to hear your feedback. A couple of posts ago hashbrowncasserole posted a link, www.arthousecoop.com, cool website with lots of projects that anyone can participate in. They used to have a weekly project that you could sign up for, great idea but I think they gave up on it.

Anyway, I want to start our own Deep-Fried Creative weekly project. The projects could be anything… an example of a project that arthousecoop did was create a monster out of the objects on your desk. Something fun that doesn’t take a whole lot of time.

I haven’t figured out all of the logistics yet, I just wanted to see if others were interested and go from there.

Let me know.

Thanks,
